“What
distinguishes a great soloist from the average is his capacity
to enthral an audience, no matter what he sings or plays. Nathan
Payas has such a beautiful voice that it is impossible to be bored
by it, no matter how many
arias
he sings in one evening. If to that you add a charisma on stage which
totally belies his years, his future is more than assured” (Gareth
Griffiths – ARCM)
Young tenor Nathan Payas has
been recognised by many
as a
rising force in the world of opera.
A student of Carlo Bergonzi
and Virginia
Zeani, this British singer brings a rare combination
of qualities to his art. Born in Gibraltar, he is of both Italian
and Spanish descent but his musical
and operatic training took
place in the
United Kingdom, the United States and
in Vienna,
Austria. From his Italian roots
he has inherited a beauty of
voice
reminiscent of the great tenors of
the ‘golden era’ such
as Schipa,
Gigli and Di Stefano. This,
combined with his Iberian
passion and charismatic
personality, augers well
for an important career
on the international stage.
“Nathan Payas is a wonderful musician…a
talent to be reckoned with.”(Gino Sanguinetti – The Gibraltar
Chronicle) “

A
very talented young man” (Martina Arroyo)
“Master
Ford, in Salieri’s opera, is enraged with jealousy,
which Nathan Payas with southern temperament delivered with
clarity and validity”(Dominik Troger- www.operinwien.at)
“Tenor Nathan Payas sang the part of the philandering
duke with panache and conscienceless brio that are key to the
character” (Geoege Walker - WFIU)
“As a conductor, it is rare nowadays to come across
a talented singer who is also an all-rounded musician… I
believe Nathan possesses a naturally beautiful voice, both
in timbre, range and sensitivity”
(Karel Mark Chichon)
“ Nathan Payas was quite magnificent to the output of Bizet, Mozart
and Schubert. His rendition of Amazing Grace was a particularly moving experience,
drawing tears from the congregation”
(VOX – Gibraltar Newspaper)
"He will ignite hearts in the future" (Carmela Altamura) |
